Midway cross country opens strong at Ohio Christian


The Midway University cross country teams travelled to Circleville, Ohio Friday, Aug. 24 to open the season at Ohio Christian University’s Trailblazer Invitational. Leading the way for the women’s team in the 3,000 meter race, was freshman Emily Chandler (Elizabethtown) who finished 12th with a school record time of 12:39.12. A split second behind was sophomore Philippa Asherwood (Zambia) in 12:39.94. Closely behind in 17th place was Madeline Segars (White House, TN). Others competing for the women were Rachelle Felski (WInber, PA), Yajeidy Gonzalez (Lexington) and Cassie Fryman (Brookville, KY). As a team, the women placed 3rd of six teams. The men were led by freshman, Jacob Stinnet (Leitchfield, KY) who also broke the existing school record for 5000 meters with a time of 18:07.94. Close behind was Cameron Botkin (Brookville), Dylan Simpson (Dawson Springs) Shawn Dickerson (Taylorsville) and Devan Baker (also of Dawson Springs), Robert Fields (McKee) and Zach Gibson (Whitley City). This is the first time the men have fielded a cross country team. “I was extremely pleased with the results of both teams,” said Midway Coach Rob Lyon. “Being such a young team, they will only get better as the season progresses.”
