George Hiter Mitchell Jr., 91, died Tuesday, Aug. 21, 2018.

Born on June 29, 1927, in Woodford County, he was the son of the late George and Nell Spicer Mitchell Sr. He worked as a carpenter with F.L.C.I.O. 1650 in Lexington. He was an Army veteran and served in WWII. He was a member of Buck Run Baptist Church, a member of the Ambassador Sunday School Class, former president of Local 1650, member of the Hiram Lodge # 4 F&A.M., a Chaplain 1996, a member of the Chaplain Capital City Shrine Club in 1993-1996, a member of Knights Temple; life member of the VFW 4075; and a member of the American Legion #7.

Survivors include two daughters, Mary (Anthony) Cordelia Adams, Midway; and JoNell Mitchell Rayner, Dawson Springs; five granddaughters; and one great-granddaughter. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Ann Kay Mitchell; a sister, Marjorie Cherry; and two brothers, Daniel W. Mitchell and Robert Mitchell.

Services were held Friday, Aug. 24, at Sunset Memorial Gardens by Chapel. Rev. Wesley Noss. Clark Legacy Center, Versailles Rd., was charge of arrangements.
