WCHS boys’ golf team goes 1-1 for week, girls lose at home

The Woodford County High School boys' golf team lost 184-179 to Franklin County on Thursday, Aug. 23 at Moss Hill Golf Course. Browning led the Jackets with a 41 for nine holes. Johnson fired a 45 and Osborn was next with a 47. Kowalke shot a 51 and Gililland had a 54. Jones had a 56 to round out the Jackets' scoring. The Jackets won their home match against Western Hills Wednesday, Aug. 22 at Moss Hill Golf Course. WCHS sophomore Jack Browning fired a 39 to lead the Jackets in scoring over nine holes. WCHS senior Richard Osborn shot a 44 and fellow senior Grayson Johnson had a 45. WCHS sophomore Conner Gililland shot a 48. Junior Joe Kowalke had a 51 and freshman Cayce Jones shot a 56. Carter Smith led the Wolverines with a 48. “I think the team is clicking early on because we talk quite a bit on the course and its helping us a lot,” said Osborn. “We are all good friends and we are close and care that we are all doing well. On the personal side, I've worked really hard on my driving lately and it's helped a lot with my game.” The Lady Jackets lost a close one to Scott County, 196-193, Thursday, Aug. 23 at Moss Hill Golf Course. WCHS senior Morgan Murray shot a 44 to lead Woodford over nine holes. WCHS freshman Mary Peyton Thompson shot a 49 and eighth-grader Sophie Lester shot a 51. WCHS senior Rachel Baston had a 52 and senior Addison Beck shot a 57. “We are having a really good time together this year,” said Baston. “I can honestly say that this group of girls is a happy little family and we enjoy our time together. We keep it light and laugh and do the best we can. My season is going much better than last year did and that helps for sure.”
