WCHS volleyball wins third straight district match
The Woodford County High School volleyball team won its third straight district match, by beating Franklin County, 3-0 Tuesday, Aug. 28. The Lady Jackets won the opening set 25-22 behind a couple of furious rallies. Woodford won the second set 25-23. In the final set, the Lady Jackets wore down the Lady Flyers and cruised to a 25-19 win. The Lady Jackets have dropped just one set in three district matches, all of which were on the road. The Lady Jackets went 3-2 at the First Spike Tournament at the Ohio Valley Volleyball Center in Louisville Saturday, Aug. 25. The Lady Jackets won 2-0 over Bardstown (25-13, 25-23) and Doss 2-0 (25-4, 25-14). The first loss of the day came against Seneca High School which won 2-0 (25-16, 25-14) but the Lady Jackets recovered and beat Fort Knox 2-0 (25-23, 25-14). The Lady Jackets lost to Henry County 2-1 (20-25, 25-21, 25-19). "The girls did well this weekend," said WCHS Coach Meghan Bottom. "They showed a lot of heart, hustle, and team support even during the last match when they were tired. We are still working on playing more consistent but showed signs of growth in that area this weekend."The Lady Jackets crushed Frankfort 3-0 Thursday, Aug. 23 to go 2-0 in district play. The Lady Jackets opened the match with a 25-5 win in the first set. The second set was more of the same as the Lady Jackets won 25-6. The Lady Jackets then took the third set 25-14. The Lady Jackets beat Owen County, 2-1, Aug. 22 at the Hive. "The Lady Jackets won the first set 25-14 and seemed to be in control, but the Lady Rebels came storming back into the match and won the second set 25-23. In the third set, the Lady Jackets gutted out a 26-24 win in a set that featured many long rallies.
