September 11, 2008 Southside and Northside elementary schools both surpassed their Commonwealth Accountability Testing System (CATS) goals for the 2007-08 biennium, according to results released by the Kentucky Department of Education.

September 9, 1993 Robert Young Brown, 63, who retired as Versailles police chief on Aug. 1 after a 41-year career in law enforcement, died Friday, Sept. 3.
Mattie C. Johnson Gray, 96, who worked throughout her life for better conditions for blacks, also died Sept. 3. She was a lifelong member of Polk Memorial Baptist Church in Mortonsville.
Woodford County has asked the City of Versailles for more financial help if the local ambulance service is to be upgraded from an EMT to a paramedic service.
Ambrose Wilson III, who has served as Midway’s city clerk and assistant since February 1978, plans to retire at the end of this month. He is a candidate for mayor in the November election.
Niesje Spragens has returned to Midway after a visit with her daughter, Katharine H. Wilder, in Santa Fe, N. M.
The Woodford County High School football team scored a heart-stopping 13-12 victory over host Jessamine County Friday night. Quarterback Jonathan Higgins connected with receiver Kary Allen on a 29-yard pass with 1:06 left on the clock.

Oscar L. Orr, a prominent political figure in Woodford County for many years, died Tuesday at age 80. He was involved in Republican politics at all levels and served in numerous leadership positions.
Associated Engineers, Inc., of Versailles performed all the utility, electrical, and mechanical design for the new Kentucky Horse Park. CAE has been in on the planning of the park since its inception in 1973.
Arguments continue to be made for and against the construction of a solid waste recycling plant in the industrial park. A suit challenging the plant has been filed in Circuit Court.
Vickie Columbia’s guests at a birthday swimming party Sunday were Isabel Hicks, Jenny Wilson, Jennifer McGohon, and Andrea Smith.
Cindy Sharon and Chuck Logan of Midway are attending Georgetown College this fall.
The Woodford County High School Yellow Jackets won their first football game in three outings this season when they defeated the Anderson Bearcats 28-0 Friday night.
