Thompson’s career-best paces Lady Jackets to win

The Woodford County High Schools Lady Jackets competed in the Gene Hilen tournament at Juniper Hills Golf Course, Sept. 1. WCHS senior Rachel Baston shot a 96 to lead the Lady Jackets in the 18- hole tournament. WCHS sophomore Mary Peyton Thompson shot a 101 and eighth-grader Sophie Lester finished with a 109. WCHS senior Morgan Murray shot a 111. The Lady Jackets won its match over Franklin County, 190-200, at Moss Hill Golf Course Aug. 30.Thompson shot a career-low 40 for nine holes to lead the Lady Jackets to victory. Murray shot a 48, and Baston fired a 49. Lester shot a 53. The Lady Jackets lost a match to Western Hills, 226-200, Aug. 28 at Juniper Hills Golf Course. Murray led the Lady Jackets with a 54 for nine holes, and Baston added a 56. Thompson shot a 57 and Lester shot 59. The WCHS boys' team won a nine-hole home match 178-183, over Anderson County. WCHS senior Grayson Johnson led the Jackets with a 41. WCHS senior Richard Osborn and sophomore Jack Browning each shot a 44. WCHS sophomores Alex Gililland and Cayce Jones each shot a 49. WCHS junior Joe Kowalke shot a 50; Drew Lawrence shot a 58, and Quinn Cardwell added a 73. The Jackets lost, 179-151, to Scott County Aug. 29 at Cherry Blossom Golf Course. Browning led the Jackets with a 42 for nine holes. Osborn and Johnson each fired a 45 and Kowalke had a 47. Jones and Gililland each shot a 51.
