Lady Jackets beat Nelson County on senior night

The Woodford County High School girls' soccer team sent its seniors out in style Saturday night with a 2-0 win over Nelson. The Lady Jackets' win was their second consecutive shutout. The Lady Jackets honored Bella Adams, Macy Upthegrove, Kali Ratcliff, Makenzie Delmonico, Jasmine Collins and Jaylynn Murillo before the game. WCHS sophomore Kamari Black scored a goal for the Lady Jackets and with five minutes remaining in the game, Delmonico scored on a header from a corner kick. A huge eruption from the stands broke out after the goal. Scott County The Lady Jackets shutout Scott County 3-0 Wednesday, Sept. 26 at Community Stadium. After a scoreless first half, the Lady Jackets increased their pressure and scored three unanswered goals. “That felt great,” said WCHS Coach Sara Thornton. “We got a maximum effort from our girls tonight and it was a pleasure to watch. They passed the ball well and they wanted to win. We are knocking on districts door right now and we need to make sure everyone is ready and understands their role on this team when the time comes.” The Lady Jackets created a few chances offensively in the first half but came out aggressively in the second half. Tucker scored a pair of goals and Black scored seconds after being dragged to the ground by a Scott County defender. “She knocked me down, but I got right back up,” said Black. “I'm a fighter and I will always get back up. Being able to score a goal right after that was perfect. Our team has been through a lot this season but we just want a chance to win. I've learned a lot this season with getting varsity minutes. I learned to trust my teammates at the top and I know they will be there for me, and to use my speed as a weapon.”
