Family fun at Falling Springs: Canine Olympics is Oct. 21

It’s that time again… we’re gearing up for Canine Olympics! On Sunday, Oct, 21, we’re taking over Falling Springs Park for a slew of exciting canine competitions and so much more. Grab the kids (canine and/or human) and come on down for an afternoon of family-friendly, dog-friendly fun!

Canine Olympics started out as a small gathering of dog lovers back in 1982 and has grown since then into a full afternoon of dog-loving fun with an outdoor fair atmosphere. In addition to the actual competitions, visitors and their pets can browse an Olympic Village full of dozens of local vendors, bid in the silent auction, take a chance at a great raffle, and best of all, stop by the food trucks to refuel with a variety of delicious treats.

There’s plenty to keep the kids busy, too: Kid’s Corner in the Olympic Village is where you’ll find face painting, a coloring contest, mini pumpkin decorating, and fall games. Toss in some shaved ice and a doggy Halloween costume contest just for kids and their pups, and you’ve got all the makings of a great fall afternoon for the whole family.

Dogs are the real champions at Canine Olympics, of course, and there’s room for every dog on our Olympic team! Got a dog who’s a fast runner or a Frisbee ace? There’s an event for that! Got a dog whose big talent is eating? There’s an event for that, too! Read the full list of games online at woodfordhumane.org and see where your pup might take home a medal.

General admission to Canine Olympics is free – so if your dog doesn’t have much of a competitive streak, or you just want to bring the kids out to enjoy some canine companionship, you’re always welcome. You can even bring camping chairs or picnic blankets to sit and spectate in comfort. If your dog is a “go for the gold” type of personality, the registration fee is $10 for the first game, and $5 for each additional game; and that first game includes a goody bag stuffed with treats, food samples, coupons and info, and a Canine Olympics T-shirt while supplies last.

Don’t miss Canine Olympics this year! Come to Falling Springs Park on Sunday, Oct. 21, and you’ll find us between the pavilion and the barns, wagging up a storm. Registration opens at noon and the games begin at 1 p.m. A blessing of the animals will take place at 12:30 p.m. To read about the Canine Olympics competitions and find out more, go towoodfordhumane.org or give us a call at 859-873-5491.
