Harry Morgan Childress, Major, United States Air Force (Retired), 80, died Nov. 22, 2018, at his home in Apple Valley, California.
He was born on March 22, 1938, in Lexington. He was a 1956 graduate of Woodford County High School, graduated from the University of Kentucky in 1961 and was commissioned an officer in the United States Air Force in 1961. He retired in March 1981at George AFB, California. In 1985, he became the first Executive Director of the High Desert Child Adolescent and Family Service Center, known as The Center. Since 1980, he has been an active member of St. Timothy’s Episcopal Church. He and his wife were members of the Victor Valley Rolling Wheels. He was an active member of the Victor Valley Optimist Club.
In addition to his wife, Carrie Patricia Childress of Apple Valley, California, he is survived by a son, Edward Andrew Childress; a daughter-in-law, Rachel Ann Brumfield; and a grandson, Oliver Isaac Childress, Medford, Oregon; an honorary son, William N. Huebsch, Las Vegas; a sister, Jane Lindner, Bradenton, Florida; and a niece, Freda Chrispen, Clearwater, Florida.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, Dec. 14, at St. Timothy’s Episcopal Church, 15757 St. Timothy Road, Apple Valley.
Donations in his memory may be made to St. Timothy’s Episcopal Church or to Loma Linda University Medical Center.
