On Dec. 18 at 6:44 pm., a Toyota Corolla driven by Mary M. Jennings, 47, of Lexington, was eastbound on East Leestown Road. She told police she hit black ice, lost control, and struck guard rails on both sides of the road. She was treated at the scene by Scott County EMS workers. Police say her vehicle was not under proper control.

On Dec. 19 at 2:30 p.m., a Peterbilt 386 driven by Donnie Warfield, 60, of Owenton, and a Ford Explorer driven by Linda L. Cline, 72, of Mt. Sterling, were westbound on I-64. Warfield told police he attempted to change lanes and thought he had plenty of time to do so. He said when he began to move to the left lane, he found a vehicle rubbing up against his tires and moved back to the right. The operator of another vehicle and Cline’s husband, who was in a third vehicle, said Warfield crossed into the left lane and pinned Linda Cline’s vehicle against the bridge. Cline’s husband said he saw his wife’s vehicle travel across both lanes behind Warfield’s vehicle and go off the side of the road, striking an earth embankment and coming to rest on the driver’s side. Linda Cline was taken to UK Chandler Hospital. Police say inattention on the part of Warfield was a factor in the crash.
