Woodford Wrestling Club places second at Anderson County


Woodford Wrestling Club placed second out of 37 teams at the Anderson County Bourbon Trail tournament Sunday, Dec. 15. This was the first time WWC placed and earned a trophy, according to Coach Jarvis Livingston. Cam Yost did not place in the Pee-Wee 40-pound weight class, but scored six team points. Jakob Slugantz did not place, but scored six team points in the Bantam 53-pound weight class. Christian Nicholson placed third in the Bantam 62-pound division. After an opening round loss, Nicholson won by sudden victory over Anyello Armas (Fern Creek Youth Wrestling). In the third consolation round, he pinned Kash Pennington (Montgomery County Wrestling) and won by fall again over Issac Riordan (Colonel Wrestling Academy) in the consolation round. Nicholson won by fall over Caisyn Lee (Colonel Wrestling Academy) in the third-place match. Isaac Richards placed third in the Bantam 70-pound division. Richards won by decision over Kylan Phillips (McCreary Elementary) in the first round and won by forfeit over Aaron Adkins (Montgomery County Wrestling) in the quarterfinals. In the semifinasl, Richards lost by major decision to Paxton McGeorge (Scott County) but won by fall in the consolation semifinal over Brandt Davis II (River City Wrestling Club). In the third place match, Richards won by decision over Triton Dunn (Danville Youth Wrestling). Christian Wakeman placed second in the Intermediate 56-pound weight class and scored 19 team points. Wakeman won by major decision over Cayden Duncan (McCreary Elementary) in the first round and won by fall over Ethan Wilkin (Fern Creek Youth Wrestling) in the quarterfinal. In the semifinal, Wakeman won in a sudden victory over Maddox Cochrane (Danville Youth Wrestling), but lost by decision to Mikah Mattingly (Shamrock Wrestling Club) in the championship. Devyn Wilkinson placed second in the Intermediate 77-pound weight class. Wilkinson won by fall over Dakota Lonkard (Raider Youth Wrestling) and pinned Braxton Woolridge (River City Wrestling Club) in the quarterfinal. Wilkinson won by fall over Hayden Mcdaniel-Wellman (Raider Youth Wrestling) in the semifinal but lost by major decision to teammate Braylen Livingston in the final. Braylen Livingston placed first in the Intermediate 77-pound weight class and scored 25 team points. Livingston won by fall over Brennan Cunningham (South Oldham Youth Wrestling) in the quarterfinal and pinned Ethan Miller (Colonel Wrestling Academy) in the semifinal. Livingston won by major decision over teammate Devyn Wilkinson in the final. Maxx Escaloni did not place in the Intermediate 93-pound weight class, but scored eight team points. Escaloni won by fall over Raiden Rios (Fern Creek Youth Wrestling), but lost by decision in the quarterfinal to Drake Grigsby (Raider Youth Wrestling). Escaloni won by fall over Kevin Bradfield (Taylor County Youth) in the third consolation round, but lost by decision to Elijah Huff (Wolverine Wrestling Club). Israel Slugantz placed third in the Intermediate 105-pound weight class and scored 14 team points. Slugantz won by fall over Devon Monnett (Danville Youth Wrestling) in the first round and won by decision over Charles Johnson (River City Wrestling Club) in the quarterfinals. Slugantz lost by fall to Dylan Hobbs (Meade County Youth Wrestling) in the semifinal, but won by decision in the consolation semifinal over Kaden Phillips (McCreary Elementary). In the third-place match, Slugantz won by decision over Charles Johnson (River City Wrestling Club). Ryan Brown's placed second in the Intermediate 105-pound weight class. Brown won by decision over Chase Lopez (Danville Youth Wrestling) in the first round and won by decision over Kaden Phillips (McCreary Elementary) in the quarterfinal. Brown won by decision over Brody Sims (Madison County) in the semifinal, but lost by fall to Dylan Hobbs (Meade County Youth Wrestling) in the championship. Brycen Gray placed first in the Novice 58-pound weight class. Gray won by forfeit over Landon Winchester (McCreary Elementary) and won by fall over Cameron Morales in the quarterfinal. Gray won by fall over Cameron Tantillo (JH Bulldogs Wrestling Club) in the semifinal and pinned Johan Cantor (Shamrock Wrestling Club) in the championship. Dylan Hurt did not place at Novice 74-pounds. Braylen Livingston placed first in the Novice 74-pound division. Livingston won by forfeit over Darwin Perez (JH Bulldogs Wrestling Club) in the quarterfinal and won by decision over Kentrell Mayfield (Meade County Youth Wrestling) in the semifinal. Livingston won by fall over Blane Torzewski (Colonel Wrestling Academy) in the championship. Landon Yost won the Novice 78-pound division. Yost won by decision over Braden Woolridge (River City Wrestling Club) in the quarterfinal and won in overtime over Ben Tucker (JH Bulldogs Wrestling Club) in the semifinal. Yost won by major decision over Chuck `CJ` Holt (Walton Verona Youth Wrestling) in the championship. Gavin Asch did not place in the Novice 78-pound division. Dakota Tipton did not place in the Novice 86-pound division. Jackson Moore did not place in the Novice 86-pound division. Moore had one win by fall over Rebecca Kurtz (BackWoods Grappling Academy). Elias Tackett did not place in the Novice 86-pound division. Tackett had one win by major decision over Helena Bobay (North Oldham Wrestling Club). Nikko Strong-Walker placed first in the Novice 96-pound division. Strong-Walker won by fall over Tryton Amburgey and won by tech fall over Tyler Kennedy (Walton Verona Youth Wrestling) to reach the finals. In the finals, Strong-Walker won by decision over Tyler Hillebrandt (Colonel Wrestling Academy). Zachary Stout did not place in the Novice 98-pound weight class. He had one win by decision over Bella Warner (Colonel Wrestling Academy) Cooper Ford did not place in the Novice 98-pound weight class. Ford had a pair of wins by forfeit. Gabriel Slugantz did not place in the Novice 98-pound weight class. Slugantz had one win by fall over Landon New (BackWoods Grappling Academy). Landon Wettlaufer placed third in the Schoolboy 80-pound weight class. Wettlaufer won by fall over Peyton Harrison (Taylor County Youth) but lost by decision to Jacob McDonald (Taylor County Youth) in the semifinal. Wettlaufer won by fall over Triton Moncrief (Edythe J. Hayes Wrestling Club) to reach the third-place match and then pinned Morgan Griffith (JH Bulldogs Wrestling Club) to take third. Aiden Slugantz's did not place in the Schoolboy 86-pound division. Abdul-Raheem Bilal III placed first in the Schoolboy 140-pound division. Bilal won by fall over Joshua Roof (Shamrock Wrestling Club) in the quarterfinal and won by fall over Brandon Burchett (Colts Wrestling) in the semifinal. Bilal won by fall over Trayton Stargel (Taylor County Youth) in the championship. Charles Stout, Jr. placed fourth in the Schoolboy 152-pound weight class. Stout lost by fall to Hunter Peace (Anderson County ) in the first round but bounced back with a win by fall over Luke Durham (Taylor County Youth). Stout lost his next two matches to Diego Pelletier (Madison County) and Colton Human (BackWoods Grappling Academy). Noah Floyd won the Schoolboy 190-pound division. Floyd received byes into the final where he won by decision over Damon Coffey (McCreary Elementary).
