Richard Emile Blanchard, 90, husband of Lorraine Blanchard, died Sunday, Dec. 30, 2018, at his home in Versailles.

He was born in Thompson, Connecticut, the son of the late Lionel and Bernadette Jolicoeur Blanchard. He received his bachelor’s degree from Providence College in Rhode Island. He served for four years in the United States Navy at Groton Naval Base in Groton, Connecticut.

He founded the personnel company Career Management Inc. in Lexington. He was a member of the Fayette County Chamber of Commerce, Junior Achievement of the Bluegrass and the Lexington Rotary Club. He served on the Board of Directors for Bluegrass Community College as well as several other local organizations.

In addition to his wife of 64 years, he is survived by five children, Dr. Michele (Curtis) Welling, Richard (Cheryl) Blanchard Jr., Danielle (Michael) Quinton, Marie (Paul) Oser, Robert Blanchard and Janine (John) Lippert; 13 grandchildren, Rachel Naedele, Molly Welling, Samuel Welling, Emily (Brandon) Hardymon, Amanda (Erik) Pilgram, Benjamin Wornstaff, Christopher (Leah) Oser, Michael Oser, Jeffrey Oser, Zachary Blanchard, Sara Blanchard, Grant Welling and Andrew (Taylor) Herbert, seven great-grandchildren, Benjamin Oser, Jacob Oser, Daphne Oser, Michele Naedele, Hannah Hardymon, Connor Hardymon and Logan Hardymon; and a brother, Bert (Mel) Blanchard. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Theresa Blanchard Coderre.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at 6 p.m. Friday, Jan. 4, at Blackburn and Ward Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. until the time of service. Pallbearers will be his grandsons.
