Upcoming Extension Events

Feb. 11 – Painting with Bessie, 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. All skill levels welcome. The painting workshop is offered every Monday. Contact Bessie Bain at 873-5658 for more information.

Feb. 11 – RAP Support Group (Relatives As Parents), 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Refreshments and child care are provided. For more information, call the Extension Office.

Feb. 19 – Beyond, 10 to 11:30 a.m. The Beyond programs will be offered at the Scott County Extension Office on every other Thursday starting Feb. 19. The free programs are aimed at helping people in recovery improve their health and well-being Beyond addiction. Topics include parenting, budgeting, cooking/nutrition, addiction education, life skills education and much more.

Feb. 19-March 12 – Grow Your Farm Business, 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. The 4-week course will be held every Tuesday and will cover the following: creating a business plan, finances and lending programs, technical assistance, marketing, budgets and enterprise evaluation, farm tours, mentors, and horticulture crops. Feb. 28 – Baking for 1 or 2, 10 a.m. Do you love the smell of fresh baked bread? Do you know your flours? There are a lot of choices in today’s market. This lesson will focus on making smaller amounts of your favorite baked goods, the right pans, temps and times. We will also look at what’s new on the shelf for making tasty, healthy baking choices and don’t forget easy and quick. To RSVP, call the Extension Office at 873-4601.

Feb. 28 – Beginning Backyard Poultry Class, 5:30 p.m. Are you curious about the backyard chicken craze? Do you want chickens but don’t know where to begin? Jacqueline Jacob, University of Kentucky Poultry Specialist, will be our guest presenter. Call 859-873-4601 to register.

March 7 – Scrap Happy Quilters, 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. All skill levels are welcome. Contact the Extension Office for project information.

4-H Clubs & Activities:

4-H Livestock Skill-a-thon Team- Feb. 6, 8, 13, & 15, 5 p.m. Develop livestock knowledge and work as a team. Compete against teams from across the state. The state contest is Saturday, Feb. 16. For more information emailryan.farley@uky.edu.

4-H Horse Club – Thursday, Feb. 7 and 2 at 6 p.m. The 4-H Horse Club will meet twice in February. This is for all 4-Hers interested in horses. You do not have to have a horse/ride to participate.

4-H STEAM Sewing Club – Monday, Feb. 11, 5 p.m. Interested in sewing, fashion and science? Join our STEAM Sewing Club. This club meets monthly and there is a $10 fee for the year.

4-H Livestock Judging Team – Tuesday, Feb. 12 and 26, 4 p.m. The livestock judging team will practice twice in February in preparation for the judging season starting in March.

4-H Lego Robotics – Feb. 14 and 21, 6 p.m. Registration runs through February 8.

4-H Cloverbuds Club – Thursday, Feb. 21, 4 p.m. This club is for any youth 5 to 8 interested in jump starting their 4-H experience. Our meeting will include a craft, story-time and a healthy snack. Space is limited, so please contact the Extension Office or sarah.redmon@uky.edu by Feb. 18 to reserve your spot. A parent/guardian must stay during the club meeting.

4-H Livestock Club Education Meeting - Monday, Feb. 25, 5 p.m. Call to RSVP as we’ll be heading to the Bluegrass Stockyards to learn about AgriMedia. Rides available, but you must RSVP by Feb. 20 to reserve a ride.

4-H Environmental Club – Monday, Feb. 27, 4 p.m. The Environmental Club will meet to learn more about the environment and natural resources.
