Monday, May 27 • The Main Library and Midway Branch will be closed for Memorial Day.

Tuesday, May 28 • Preschool Story Hour, 11 a.m., Midway branch. (Ages 5 and younger) Children (with a favorite adult) have fun with engaging books, songs and activities as they build their early literacy skills. • Drop-in Knitting, 6 p.m., Midway branch. (Adults and teens) Whether you are an experienced knitter or someone just learning, drop in to receive pointers, show off your work and mingle with other knitters. • Writer’s Group, 6:30 p.m., main library. (Teens and adults) Kick-start your imagination with creative writing exercises. • Tuesday Evening Book Club, 6:30 p.m., Versailles Brewing Company. (Adults) Discuss “The Island” by Elin Hilderbrand. All are welcome.

Wednesday, May 29 • Tween Time: Camp Fun, 4 p.m., main library. (Ages 8-11) Eat yummy s’mores, make Sharpie dyed bandanas, play Minute to Win It games and more.

Thursday, May 30 • La Plaza, 11:45 a.m. to 1 p.m., main library. (Adults) Looking for an opportunity to practice your Spanish? Drop in for a lunchtime conversation in Spanish every Thursday. A light lunch will be provided.

Friday, May 31 • Friday Coffee Club, 9:30 a.m., main library. (Adults) Deborah Knittel will speak about Eldering. • Summer Reading Kick-Off Parties, 4 to 7 p.m., main library and Midway branch. (All ages) Blast off for a great summer and get your whole family signed up for summer reading. At the main library’s party, meet Belle, Moana and the Red Power Ranger from 5 to 6 p.m., get your face painted and jump in the bounce house. At the Midway Branch’s party, enjoy games, crafts, snacks, special guests and a bounce house. From 5 to 6 p.m., the Living Arts and Science Center will set up their inflatable planetarium. Space is limited, so call the Midway Branch Library at (859) 846-4014 ahead of time to reserve spots for a 30-minute earth, moon, sun planetarium show.

Sunday, June 2 • Opening Reception for To the Moon: Pen and Inks by Jen Dunham, 2 to 4 p.m., main library. (All welcome) Jen Dunham has combined her love of art and books into a unique blend of mix-media art. All work is done using micron pens and colored pencils on library card catalog cards. The full moon is a favorite theme for Jen’s art with each month represented by the full moon for that month. Show runs through July 26.
