Blankenship, Corum sign with colleges

Woodford County High School’s library was packed Thursday, May 16, as seniors Griffi n Blankenship and Charlie Corum made their college commitments. Blankenship signed with Pikeville, while Corum will attend Florence-Darlington Tech. The South Carolina school competes in the top division of Junior College baseball, and in 2017 made the JuCo World Series. Eleven players from the program have been selected in the MLB Draft. Pikeville, meanwhile, competes in the NAIA’s Mid-South Conference. Coaches had nothing but praise for the players as they spoke to the gathered crowd. “I’ve been here four years, since their freshman year... It’s an important group to me because this is the group where we set a goal for ourselves that by the time they’re seniors, we ought to be rocking and rolling,” said Coach Paul Patterson. The two may have played their final game in a Woodford County uniform, but their baseball days are far from over.
