His last career was with the National Park Service, where he was a tour guide and researcher. He worked at national parks in several states, including Maine, Massachusetts and the Everglades in Florida. He retired from Mammoth Cave National Park in 2002. He worked as a liaison to the Cave Research Foundation and was instrumental in getting the park designated as a UNESCO world heritage site. In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Christopher (Jenny) Gregory, Nicholasville; a daughter, Lauren (Scott) Cottingham, Versailles; three granddaughters, Caitlin, Emery and Anna Cottingham; two grandsons, Dylan and Kyler Gregory; and a sister, Julia (Bill) Mitchell, Lexington. No services are planned. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Woodford Humane Society.
