Ask an Officer

The Woodford Sun is beginning a new feature this week called “Ask an Officer” that will consist of frequently-asked questions, their answers, and the applicable law or laws. Readers are encouraged to email their own questions tojohn@woodfordsun.com. We’ll pass them on to the Versailles Police Department. Question: Can I park in the fire lane if I am only going to be there a short time? Answer: No, vehicles may not be parked in fire lanes even if it is for a short duration or if the vehicle has occupants. These areas are to remain clear in the event an emergency vehicle (i.e. police, fire, ambulance) is required to respond to an emergency at the location. Also, when non-emergency vehicles park in fire lanes, it’s more difficult for other drivers to see street signs and pedestrians.
