DAR collecting sheets, laundry supplies for troops

The Versailles chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution is collecting sheets and laundry supplies for members of the 101st Airborne Division who will soon return to Fort Campbell. “Operation Dressing The Barracks” is asking for new twin or twin XL sheet sets and pods or small boxes of laundry detergent. Collection boxes are at the Versailles Municipal Building (city hall), the Woodford County Courthouse and Midway City Hall, according to DAR regent Anissa Penn Davis. The group will also accept financial donations for the drive at the Aug. 16 Friday Night Block Party in downtown Versailles, and use the money to purchase sheets and laundry detergent. “Deployed troops do not get access to their packed belongings for one to two weeks after returning, so they have to sleep on bare mattresses until they gain access to the storage facility,” Davis said. The collection boxes will be picked up Aug. 23 and sent to Fort Campbell.
