Atha Griffith Atwood, 98, widow of Doyle Atwood, died Sunday, Oct. 6, 2019, at Pine Meadows Nursing Home in Lexington. Born on Dec. 18, 1920, in Casey County, she was the daughter of the late Opal and Eula Peavy Griffith. Survivors include five sons, Garnett (Polly) Atwood, Burnside; David (Sharmie) Atwood; Larry (Carol) Atwood, both of Pennsylvania; Jerry (Margie) Atwood, Midway; and George (Gail) Atwood, Versailles; 16 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by two sons, Cecil Atwood and Vallis Atwood. Services were held Wednesday, Oct. 9, at Blackburn & Ward Funeral Home, by Mark Sims. Interment and graveside services will be at 11 a.m. today, Thursday, Oct. 10, in Casey County at the Caney Fork Cemetery.
