Van Hoose

Howard Leslie Van Hoose died peacefully Monday, Oct. 21, 2019, in Ft. Myers, Florida, on his 60th birthday following a long illness. Born on Oct. 21, 1959, in Paintsville, he was the son of Martelle Patrick Van Hoose and Larry Van Hoose. Named for both his maternal and paternal grandfathers, Howard Patrick and Leslie Van Hoose, he graduated from Woodford County High School in 1978, where he was a standout football player and wrestler. Howard lived most of his life in and around Versailles, moving later in life to Lubbock, Texas and, finally, to Ft. Myers. Howard held a variety of jobs in his life and was the loving and attentive caretaker to his ailing parents in their later years. He was an ardent fan of the University of Kentucky athletic teams and loved all sports. He was an avid golfer and fisherman. He was a kind, generous friend to many and known for his quick smile and lighthearted approach to life. He is survived by his younger brother Todd Van Hoose, sister-in-law Mary Van Hoose, niece Kendall Van Hoose, nephew Connor Van Hoose, and many cousins. He will be laid to rest in the family cemetery in Nippa, Ky.
