Marjorie “Margie” R. Shipp, 90, died peacefully Monday, Nov. 4, 2019, after a long battle with Alzheimer’s. Born on July 26, 1929, in Dayton, Kentucky, her parents were the late E. Paul Ramsey and Helen C. Duell. She was a graduate of Versailles High School, class of 1947. After retiring from Island Creek Coal Company, she was a faithful volunteer at St. Joseph Hospital for over 20 years. Margie is survived by two sons, Wendell (Darra) L. Shipp and John (Dru) R. Thompson; her sisters, Pat Clark, Helen (Fred) Jean Widman and Peg (Larry) Weber; a brother, James Ramsey; three grandchildren, Linlee Shipp, Ben and Seth Thompson; and two great-grandchildren Halee and Ashlyn Hood. Visitation will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 23, followed by a service at 12 p.m. at First Christian Church, 160 Lexington St., Versailles. She has donated her body to the University of Kentucky College of Medicine, Department of Anatomy and Neurobiology Body Bequeathal Program. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Bluegrass Hospice Care, 2312 Alexandria Dr., Lexington, Ky. 40504.
