James Lyles Russell, 81, widower of Anna S. Terry Russell, died Monday, May 11, 2020, at the University of Kentucky Medical Center. Born on Aug. 25, 1938, in Clay City, he was the son of the late Chester Lyles Russell and Aretta Reed Freeman. He was a bus driver for Woodford County Schools and had retired from Adena Springs Farm, where he had been employed as a night watchman, and was a member of Mount Eden Christian Church. Survivors include five children, Abby (Gary) Sorrell, Nicholasville; Sheila Florian, Barbara (Jeff) Martin, both of Versailles; Bonnie Russell and James (Carmen), both of Nicholasville; four sisters, Madgie Wilburn, Frankfort; Junie Russell, Stamping Ground; Molly Wyman, Lawrenceburg; and Anna Sue Cochran, Versailles; 19 grandchildren; 44 great-grandchildren; and numerous great-great-grandchildren. In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by two daughters, Shirley Russell Walton and Pam Russell; a son-in-law, Jason Walton; a sister, Juanita Jones; and three brothers, Charlie Russell, Teddy Russell and Pit Stivers. A private graveside service will be held today, Thursday, May 14, at Rose Crest Cemetery by Rev. Greg Hereford. A drive-by visitation will be from 12 to 1 p.m. at the cemetery. Blackburn & Ward Funeral Home has been entrusted with the service arrangements.
