Four youth wrestlers earn All-American honors
Woodford County had a quartet of wrestlers representing Carr Wrestling
Academy at the NUWAY Combat National Championships in Gatlinburg June 4.
All four earned All-American honors at the event.
Kaylen Escaloni earned All-American honors and took home first-place in
the girls’ high school 138-pound division in the Freestyle Championship
with a win by fall and another by technical fall. In addition, Kaylen
dominated the competition in the Folkstyle event by pinning all three of
her opponents on her way to another All-American honor and first place.
This past weekend was an absolute blast,” said Kaylen. “It was great
being able to compete with girls from other states and see teams from
all over. The competition was so much fun, and I hope next time more
guys and girls alike from Woodford branch out to compete in big
tournaments. We are one step closer to sanctioning women’s wrestling in
Maxx Escaloni took home third, and All-American honors in the
12-and-under 125-pound class freestyle event while going 0-2 in his
bracket. Maxx did not place in the Folkstyle event.
James Escaloni placed seventh and earned All-American honors in the
Folkstyle eight-and-under 82-pound division.James went 1-2 with a win by
Brycen Gray took home third place and All-American honors in the
12-and-under Folkstyle 76-pound weight class. Brycen went 2-2 in the
event with one win by fall.
