Hill earns All-Tournament team honors to lead Eagles at Asbury Invitational
The Midway University women’s golf team wrapped up their fourth
tournament of the spring Tuesday, March 30, when they played the second
round of the Asbury Invitational at the Gary Brewer Jr. Golf Course in
Lexington.
Just 24 hours after shooting their best score of the spring season, the
Eagles had a tough time carrying that momentum into the final round. The
Eagles shot a 335 in the second round to finish with a 671 overall as
they dropped to third place in the final standings.
IU East (Ind.) jumped up to second in the final standings following a
669 (335-334), while Lindsey Wilson (Ky.) cruised to the victory after
shooting a 640 (325-315).
Once again leading the charge for the Blue and Gold was Emilie Hill. The
redshirt freshman from Frankfort had a tough go of it in her second
round, finishing with an 88 for a 161 overall. She did, however, earn
All-Tournament team honors following her fourth-place finish.
Also finishing inside the top 10 was Jenna Lewis. The redshirt junior
from Shelbyville shot an 84 in both rounds to finish with a 36-hole
total of a 168 in a tie for eighth place.
Finishing with identical scores in a tie for 15th was the duo of Sydnee
Beard (Campbellsville) and Catie Kelly (Shelbyville). The two posted
scores of 86 and 87, respectively, in their final 18 holes to finish
with a 171 overall.
Hannah Ritchie (Winchester) showed a six shot improvement in the second
round to finish with a 174 (90-84) and Payton Schechter (Fishers) shot a
pair of 88’s to finish with a 176, while Allie Berry (Bardstown)
improved by four shots for a 36-hole total of 196 (100-96).
Following a busy stretch of tournaments, Midway will hosting their
annual home tournament – the Midway Eagle Invitational – April 12-13 at
Frankfort Country Club.
