Holiday adoption drive perseveres at Woodford Humane

In a year when just about everything has been cancelled, one Woodford Humane Society event has refused to take no for an answer: we’re very excited to announce that the Adoption Drive, presented by Quantrell Subaru, will indeed be taking place this year! Quantrell is generously sponsoring every pet adopted Nov. 27-Dec. 23. As in previous years, this means no adoption fees for you – and although things will have to run a little differently this year, our hope is that it will still find homes for many, many deserving pets…not just for the holidays, but for life. Before you rush out to get in line at the Adoption Center, though…please don’t. That’s not how things work this year, during the Adoption Drive or just in general. The big change for this Adoption Drive is that we will do all adoptions by appointment, as we have since we reopened in May. Appointments must be made by phone (859-873-5491) starting at noon daily and can be scheduled up to a week in advance. If our math is correct, that means the very first of our Adoption Drive appointments can be scheduled starting at noon on Friday, Nov. 20. In keeping with our adoption-by-appointment procedures, potential adopters will need to scout out the pets on our website (woodfordhumane.org) and know who they want to meet to get on the schedule; and it means that stopping by just to look will not be an option. But, on the flip side, it also means your adoption application can be pre-screened and pre-approved, and there will be far less pressure to act quickly – because you’ll have a whole hour to spend time with your selected pet and make a decision! In order to allow for as many adoptions as possible during the Adoption Drive, Woodford Humane Society will be temporarily extending our weekend hours. We will be able to fit in a maximum of eight appointments each day, six days a week. Each of those appointment slots is a precious commodity, and we need your help to make sure every opportunity for a forever home during the Drive is used well. So please, if you make an appointment, show up; and be ready to make a lifelong commitment starting that day if the pet is a good fit. If you think you may want to take part in this year’s Adoption Drive, presented by Quantrell Subaru, start planning now! There’s a lot more information on what to expect and how to prepare for an appointment on our website, and our adoptable pets are listed there, too. Give careful thought to what energy level, training level, personality traits, time commitments, etc. will mesh best with your home, and if you need help picking the right pet, just give us a call. Our Adoptions Counselors will be happy to offer suggestions. For questions and appointments, reach us at 859-873-5491. To learn more, visit woodfordhumane.org.
