Michele Rankin named recipient of Midway U's Ruth Slack Roach Memorial Award
Michele Rankin, Jailer for the Woodford County Detention Center, has been named recipient of Midway University’s Ruth Slack Roach Memorial Award. The recognition, part of the University’s virtual Homecoming activities in September, is presented to a graduate who has demonstrated impactful community service. Rankin, who received her bachelor’s degree in Organizational Management in 1999 from Midway University, was given the honor for developing programs that benefit not only inmates but Woodford County, as well. Rankin developed a Christmas Shop for inmates to purchase gifts for their children and established a Daddy-Daughter dance to provide more normalcy and relationship-building within their families. She also started a community garden that provided fresh foods to the Woodford County Public Schools, Woodford County Senior Citizens and Woodford County Food Pantry. Most recently, she answered the call of action of the COVID-19 pandemic by launching sewing training sessions to make more than 65,000 masks for the community. The award was established in 1995 in memory of Ruth Slack Roach, a long-time friend and support of Midway University.
