WCHS senior prom moved to Thoroughbred Square

Graduating seniors at Woodford County High School will celebrate their

final year together at prom on Saturday, May 15, from 8 p.m. to midnight

at Thoroughbred Square and its adjacent parking lot.

The outdoor, in-person WCHS senior prom for the Class of 2021 was

originally planned on Court Street, but was moved in order to “better

ensure the safety of our students,” prom sponsor Nikki Mooney wrote in

an email.

She said the original plan was to shut down Court and Main streets in

order to restrict vehicular and pedestrian traffic. However, a few

businesses on Court Street did not want the prom to restrict their

day-to-day operations, she added.

For safety reasons at the new location, Green Street will be closed and

Park Street will be restricted for vehicle traffic during prom, Mooney

said. She said North Street will remain open.

In addition to having a DJ and dance floor, the outdoor prom at

Thoroughbred Square will have bistro tables set up under tents and

limited chair seating to support social distancing, Mooney said.

Photographer John Hemlepp will take pictures of couples, and there “will

be plenty of string lights and festive decorations to spruce up the

area,” Mooney said. She noted parents will be able to watch the

promenade, and may park at the Versailles Baptist Church or Versailles

Presbyterian Church parking lots.
