The president of the Kentucky United Methodist Homes for Children & Youth said he has not been contacted by anyone associated with Walmart about the availability of property on Lexington Road now occupied by a golf course. “I have had no conversations with Walmart about anything,” said Randy Coy, when asked if there was any truth to rumors that the national retailer has expressed an interest in purchasing the 149 acres being leased by The Brook Golf Club. Its lease with the Methodist Home runs through the end of 2016, Coy said. The Methodist Home, which has been on its Lexington Road campus since 1931, has purchased 30 acres in Jessamine County and plans to eventually move its operations there. A four-month feasibility study will determine the amount of money that can be raised during a capital campaign. That process will likely take up to two years to complete, Coy said. Coy has had ongoing conversations with a party interested in purchasing the 67-acre Methodist Home campus. “The person interested in the property that I’m on right now is exploring the option of buying the golf course too,” he added. Coy said he cannot reveal how that interested party would use the golf course property. “But I am confident that it’s somebody Woodford County would welcome,” he explained. “I know there’s lots of rumors out there around a drug rehab and a whole bunch of other stuff like that – it’s not true.”
