A conditional-use permit allowing an equine veterinary clinic and hospital to reopen under new ownership was approved by the Versailles-Midway-Woodford County Board of Adjustment (BOA) on Monday night. The unanimous approval allows Park Equine Properties to operate a vet clinic/hospital at 3550 Lexington Road, the former location of Woodford Equine Hospital. “I want you guys to know it’s a pleasure to become a part of this community and to have the opportunity to open an equine hospital here,” Dr. John Park told board members. Park Equine Properties, a limited partnership, acquired the 30.464-acre site located behind the new Dairy Queen on Lexington Road in September of last year. An attorney for the applicant, Davis Wilson, said Dr. Park has a successful animal hospital business in Paris that employs 60 people. “He hopes to have 20 to 25 (employees) when he’s fully functional here in Woodford County,” Wilson said. Other than some landscaping, no changes are planned for the existing medical facilities on the property, he said. Animal clinics and hospitals are a conditional-use in the A-1 (agricultural) zone, but a new property owner must apply for a permit in order for a conditional-use to continue. Dr. Park said he’s looking forward to serving a community that’s “very horse-oriented.” BOA member Frank Stark was absent from Monday night’s meeting. Habitat homes Variances were granted allowing Woodford Habitat for Humanity to construct two townhouses at 208 and 210 Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard. Woodford Habitat for Humanity has previously built eight other townhouses and two single-family homes on MLK Boulevard, and two low-income families receiving homes are now homeowners, according to the Habitat board. Officers The BOA voted unanimously to keep its same slate of officers as last year. Tim Turney was re-elected chair, David Prewitt will again serve as vice chair and Stark continues as secretary for this calendar year.
