A plan to bring an Indiana-based snack food maker to Big Sink Pike will come before the Versailles-Midway-Woodford County Planning and Zoning Commission tonight, Thursday, March 10. The Woodford County Economic Development Authority has asked for an amendment to the Comprehensive Plan and the rezoning of about 67 acres from A-1 (agricultural) to 1-1 (light industrial) so More Than A Bakery can move forward with its plan to build a manufacturing facility on a 100-acre site along Big Sink Pike (owned by Camco Properties, LLC). The company will make cookies, crackers and other products here and employ about 310 workers, which Versailles Mayor Brian Traugott described as the biggest influx of new jobs in Versailles in at least two decades. More Than A Bakery will spend $57 million to build its manufacturing facility and receive nearly $8 million in performance-based state tax incentives for locating here. Tonight's Planning Commission meeting begins at 6:30 in the second-floor courtroom of the Woodford County Courthouse. Comments during the public hearing on the Comp Plan amendment and zone-change requests are limited to three minutes per person, with written comments also accepted at the meeting. VUM Church plan A final development plan to construct a "Family Life Center" on property – owned by Versailles United Methodist Church – at the corner of Lexington and Paynes Mill Road is also set to come before the Planning Commission. A pavilion currently exists on VUM Church's 30 acres at 230 Paynes Mill Road. During a review of the development plan last month, Planning Director Pattie Wilson said that Versailles United Methodist Church would like to host a groundbreaking for its new Family Life Center on Easter Sunday, March 27. The church is currently located on Court Street in downtown Versailles.
