The Democratic nominee for President of the United States, as well as Republican and Democratic candidates for U.S. Senator and U.S. Representative from Kentucky's Sixth Congressional District, make up the ballot for Tuesday's primary election in Woodford County. The Republican nominee for President was decided in the party's Presidential Preference Caucus held on March 5. Donald Trump won both Woodford County and the state in that caucus, and is the party's presumptive nominee as primaries and caucuses have played out across the country. Republicans, however, have a reason to turn out for Tuesday's election, as the party's candidates for U.S. Senator and U.S. Representative are in play. In the race for U.S. Senator, incumbent Rand Paul faces opposition from Stephen Howard Slaughter and James R. Gould, while incumbent U.S. Rep. Andy Barr is being challenged by Roger Q. Brill. On the Democratic side, current frontrunner Hillary Clinton faces a strong challenge from U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders (D-Vermont), with Martin J. O'Malley and Roque Rocky De La Fuente rounding out the list of candidates. In the Democratic race for U.S. Senator, Lexington Mayor Jim Gray, Grant T. Short, Selius Wilder, Rory Houlihan, Jeff Kender, Ron Leach, and Tom Recktenwald are seeking the nomination. Seeking the Democratic nomination for U.S. Representative are Nancy Jo Kemper and Geoffrey M. "Geoff" Young. Though Michael Coblenz will appear on the ballot, he has withdrawn and votes cast for him won't be counted.
