Questions (and answers)
Without further ado, please allow me to unveil the Sun’s Q&A schedule for political candidates in some of the key races this November. (Please note the days listed are those in which the Q&As will appear in Woodford County’s newspaper of record since 1869. Which is us.) Oct. 6: Midway City Council Oct. 13: Versailles City Council Oct. 20: Woodford County School Board, Woodford Fiscal Court (Districts 1 to 4) Oct: 27: 56th District state representative, 14th Circuit judge, Woodford Fiscal Court (Districts 5 to 8) Nov. 3: Woodford judge-executive We are once again partnering with Woodford Forward and several other community groups that submitted proposed questions and the Q&As will also be posted on woodford.vote, as they were before the May primary. Each week, I’ll be sending the Qs to the selected group or groups of candidates, the rules (including strict word limits – “strict” meaning if they’re too long, I’ll chop from the bottom) and a request for a digital headshot. Folks will have a week, or nearly so, to return the As and photo, and I hope all will choose to participate. While the Sun has published Q&As for the last several election cycles, our partnership with Woodford Forward and other community groups and the posting of the Q&As on woodford.vote is designed to give voters as much easily accessible information as possible. Knowledge is power, as Sir Francis Bacon wrote a long time ago. That said, it’s a lot of work, mistakes are possible and the schedule may need to be revised, because there are, metaphorically speaking, a lot of moving parts, some of which may, occasionally and temporarily, grind to a halt like the Tin Man in “The Wizard of Oz.” Hey, that’s what a can of oil is for … or, to be more accurate, social lubrication via conversations and emails with worried and/or confused candidates. As always, folks with questions and concerns (I also accept compliments, though they won’t lead to extended word limits) can call (859) 873-4131, ext. 13 or email john@woodfordsun.com. I’m cutting this short to get back to the afore-mentioned Q&As and the daily work of the Sun. As always, thank you for your continued support and patience, and special thanks this week to those who’ve reached out to your humble scribe during his ongoing bout with you know what. All I’ll say about that is he is darn glad he was double-boosted. Be safe out there, y’all. […]
