MIDWAY CITY COUNCIL HONORED at this week’s meeting Assistant City Clerk

Sonya Conner and Councilmember Mary Raglin for completing the Level I

Achievement in City Governance from the Kentucky League of Cities.

Midway Mayor Stacy Thurman announced at the City Council meeting this

week that the low bidder on the next water supplier contract was the

Frankfort Plant Board (FPB). The current supplier, Kentucky American

Water, was the only other bidder. Thurman directed the Public Works

Committee, chaired by Councilmember Logan Nance, to meet before the next

council meeting with the city engineer, David Brown, and the city water

operator, Jack Blevin, to review and analyze the proposed FPB contract

and make recommendations. Thurman said she expects the council to vote

on the contract at that Nov. 20 meeting.

Thurman reminded the councilmembers that if FPB becomes the new water

supplier, then construction will need to begin quickly on the

infrastructure to hook Midway’s system into the FPB system, which will

include a new pump station that the FPB will maintain. She said this

will need to be completed by May 25, 2024, when the Kentucky American

Water contract expires. A new contract with FPB would be for 20 years.

Councilmember Patrick Hall reported that the Parks Committee has begun

construction of the new dog run which he said, “looks great, people are

really going to enjoy this.”

Councilmember Sara Hicks reported that the Cemetery Committee is working

on a memorial to honor those buried in St. Rose cemetery without a

marker. She said that the committee expects to have a detailed proposal

for the council to consider funding for this project in the 2024-2025

fiscal cycle.

The council honored Councilmember Mary Raglin and Assistant City Clerk

Sonya Conner who completed the training for the Level I Achievement in

City Governance at the Kentucky League of Cities city officials training

center.
