Midway Mayor Grayson Vandegrift said over 100 people turned out at the first annual Midway Homecoming Softball Tournament on Sunday, Sept. 15, including youth, who are now adults, who used to play at the ballpark. There were three adult games, and a kids game in between. Sides were picked and team names chosen: Midway Misfits, Midway Mulchers, Iron Horses and Nuckol Ballers. The trophy, a softball screwed into a piece of cedar, was won by the Nuckol Ballers. The idea for the event came from a photo shoot Midway photographer and artist Matthew Donahue was working on. And from there, the idea gathered steam. Donahue said, “(Midway) and its people are incredible. I’ve never seen such a community in such a beautiful place. I’ve been all over the globe and I am so blessed to have landed here in Kentucky and now call Midway home.”
