THE MIDWAY EUROPEAN CHRISTMAS MARKET, sponsored by the Midway Merchants Association, brings a little bit of Germany, Austria and France to the Bluegrass. The event runs every Friday from 6 to 9 p.m., beginning Nov. 14 and continuing through Dec. 19. The entire event will be in the small park, which can be entered off the east side of Main Street. The heart of downtown Midway is aglow with holiday spirit this season as the Midway Business Association debuts a brand-new tradition — the Midway European Christmas Market. It is nestled in the charming downtown Courtyard, accessed via the east-side of Main Street or Martin Street, the market and tree lot promises to bring the warmth and wonder of a European-style holiday market to Midway. The market will be open on Friday evenings from 6 to 9 p.m., beginning on Nov. 14, and every Friday at the same time through Dec. 19. There is no charge to enjoy a visit to the market, and it is perfect for folks of all ages.Inspired by the traditional Christmas markets of Germany, Austria and France, the market celebrates community, craftsmanship and the simple joys of the holiday season. The concept, according to organizers, is to transform Midway’s historic center into a festive marketplace filled with twinkling lights, artisan vendors and the comforting aromas of holiday treats. Visitors can stroll through the courtyard, shop for handcrafted gifts, sample local food and beverages and enjoy the sounds of seasonal music. As an added bonus, the MBA has also added a Christmas tree lot that offers a limited number of fresh-cut Fraser Fir trees in three sizes.“The idea was to create a gathering place where families and friends could slow down and experience the magic of Christmas in a truly local way,” said Amy Bowman, a merchant and one of the event organizers. “Midway’s downtown, with its historic charm and small-town warmth, is the perfect backdrop for creating great holiday memories.”In addition to shopping, guests can look forward to special treats that will be sprinkled throughout the season, such as a visit from Mrs. Claus, carolers, a fire pit for s’mores and warming up and holiday music. On Friday, Nov. 14, opening night, the Snowyspy Silhouettes will be cutting live portrait faces of all ages for a small charge. The experience is not limited to the market itself. Many downtown shops and local restaurants will be open, inviting visitors to enjoy the full Midway experience under the glow of holiday lights.Whether you’re looking to find that perfect handmade gift, enjoy a warm cup of cocoa or mulled wine, or simply soak in the festive atmosphere, Midway invites everyone to join in this new holiday tradition.
