Lucie Chandler

Lucie Chandler, deputy editor of The Woodford Sun, has been elected as the newest member of the Kentucky Press Association’s board of directors.

Lucie’s family has owned the Sun for more than 80 years, when her great-grandfather, Albert B. “Happy” Chandler, purchased it from the Bowmar family in 1942. Lucie will represent District 13 on the board for Anderson, Bourbon, Fayette, Franklin, Harrison, Nicholas, Scott and Woodford counties.

A special election took place after Rick Green resigned his seat after leaving the Lexington Herald-Leader.

Lucie joined the Woodford Sun staff in 2024 – initially coming aboard to help with advertising. She is now acting as deputy editor and assistant business manager in addition to overseeing ad sales.

A Versailles native, Lucie graduated from Woodford County High School and attended Transylvania University. In 2023, Chandler graduated from the University of Kentucky Rosenberg College of Law with a J.D. After a short stint working in the legal field at Dunlap Law Firm, Chandler came to the Sun to help in whatever capacity was needed.

In her time at the Sun, Lucie has come to develop a deeper love and appreciation for journalism at a time when journalism is under attack. She is working to ensure Woodford County continues to have local journalists providing hometown news coverage, holding elected officials accountable and covering local sporting events by expanding advertising and transitioning to a nonprofit business model.

Scott White, the Sun’s editor, said, “Lucie’s skillset and focus on methods to sustain local journalism in the current milieu will be an enormous asset to our professional organization, and recognize her as an emerging leader in Kentucky journalism, which is a real feather in the Sun’s cap.”
