Kentucky State Sen. Amanda Mays Bledsoe, R-Lexington, whose district encompasses all of Woodford County, was named the recipient of the inaugural Outstanding Young Woman Award, presented by 100 Women Lexington.

“I am honored to receive this award and grateful to 100 Women Lexington for this recognition,” Mays Bledsoe said in a Senate Majority Caucus news release. “It is a privilege to serve my community, and I am thankful for the opportunity to continue working for the people of Lexington and the commonwealth.”

The Outstanding Young Woman award recognizes women under 50 who have made significant contributions and had a meaningful impact in their community or professional careers, according to a 100 Women Lexington news release.

“Senator Mays Bledsoe was selected from a pool of eight because of her leadership, community involvement and public service,” said the release.

According to the organization’s website, 100 Women Lexington is a local donor and advocacy group based in Lexington, whose main goal is to support nonprofit organizations that take care of women and their children. Through its annual membership contributions, as well as corporate sponsorships, the organization has raised more than $500,000 in the last seven years, with 100 percent of its donations given directly to nonprofit organizations.
