RANGER STEVE PHAN, chief of interpretation at Camp Nelson National Monument, presented a History at Sunset program about the experience of U.S. Colored Troops and veterans after the Civil War. The program at Huntertown Community Interpretive Park also told the stories of the hundreds of African Americans from Woodford County who made their way to Camp Nelson so they could enlist in the U.S. Colored Troops in 1864 and 1865.
