I’m James Mansfield. People call me Jim.

I am running for the Woodford County Conservation District Board of Supervisors. I believe farmland and open space preservation is a key part of conserving our natural resources.

“The Woodford County Conservation District seeks to promote and protect the conservative management of natural resources through outreach and education and by coordinating local, state and federal resources to strengthen locally-led conservation priorities.”

I am a farmer and have worked in agriculture all my life. My wife and I own and operate a sheep farm in southern Woodford County. We brought our operations and ag marketing business here.

In 2025 we conserved our 240-year-old farm with the Bluegrass Land Conservancy and a Natural Resources Conservation Service fund. The land will remain a farm forever.  We love it here in Woodford County and it is clear that Woodford County residents do too.

We need a balance between housing and farmland to keep Woodford County rural.  Last fall I organized two public meetings in Troy to understand the threat of rural housing sprawl. I led a countywide, non-partisan working group that pushed for changes in the zoning ordinances. Together we worked with officials. The revised ordinances became law in February 2026.

I have used many of the Conservation District’s programs on our farm. Farmers use good conservation practices in order to protect the natural resource and maintain productivity.

I ask for your vote in November. Thank you, James Mansfield.
