Gilbert Walker Clifton, known lovingly as Gil, 78, of Versailles, died Sept. 6, 2026. He was born Dec. 29, 1947, in Princeton, West Virginia, to James William “Bill” Clifton and Darcus Swim Clifton.
Gil is survived by his beloved wife, Vickie Phillips Clifton, with whom he shared 57 wonderful years of marriage; his sons, Chadwick “Chad” Clifton and his wife, Christy, and Barry Clifton; his grandchildren, Carley Clifton, Ian Clifton, Ethan Rice and Jonah Rice; his niece, Cheryl Clifton Thompson of Titusville, Fla.; his sister-in-law, Sylvia Clifton of Newport News, Va.; and his wife’s sisters and their families: Diana and Emerson Okes of Princeton, W.Va.; Doris and Wayne Thomas of Roanoke, Va.; Debby and Don Richardson of Avon Park, Fla.; Dreama Phillips Swecker of Princeton, W.Va.; and Darla Phillips Boone of Salem, Va.
