Report for America corps member

The group sponsoring this fall’s candidate forums, the first in decades, has scheduled the final Candidate Forum for Wednesday, Oct. 7, from 6 to 8 p.m., in the Fiscal Court room on the second floor of the Woodford County Courthouse. Sponsors include The Woodford Sun, the Woodford County Farm Bureau, the Woodford County Republican Party, the Woodford County Democratic Party and former Midway mayor Tom Bozarth.

Candidates for House District 56, Woodford County School Board District-1, and the open seats on the Woodford County Conservation District’s Board of Supervisors have all been invited to attend the Forum.

It is the hope that all of the candidates will attend so the voters they represent are afforded the opportunity to hear them discuss their positions on issues important to Midway, Millville, Mortonsville, Nonesuch, Pisgah, Shoreacres, Versailles and Woodford County.

There will be no signs or campaigning allowed during the forums. And, though this is not a debate in which the candidates will be interacting with each other, it is hoped and expected that all of the candidates and audience members will treat all with respect.

The forum will use the same format as the other four forums – each candidate will be given a short amount of time for an opening statement; a moderator will ask a question and each candidate will respond with the same amount of time, without any back and forth. The questions are drawn from those submitted by Woodford County voters and supplemented by representatives of the sponsor groups. Time will be jointly kept by a representative of the Woodford County Republican and Democratic parties.

The Sun is not participating in the creation or the selection of questions, since we are covering all of the forums as news stories.

This forum, as well as the other four, will be live-streamed on the Sun’s Facebook page, where it will remain available for watching through Nov. 4, the day after the election.
