Darrell Gene Allen, 76, of Versailles, passed away on Oct. 9, 2026, in Lexington, Kentucky, surrounded by his wife, Ruth, and daughter, Heather.

Born on March 7, 1950, in Richmond, Indiana, to Randolph Orville Allen and Allie Jane Laswell Allen, Darrell was a man of extraordinary intelligence and kindness. He made friends easily and was loyal to all who knew him.

Darrell married his second wife, Ruth Ann Allen, on Oct. 3, 2017.  They resided in Syracuse, Indiana, before moving to Kentucky in 2021.

Darrell’s great passion was classic cars. He spent countless hours restoring cars, going to car shows or talking about cars. He never lost his love for a beautiful machine.

He is survived by his wife, Ruth Ann Allen; his brother, Donny Allen; his children, Heather Lynn Rick, Dawn Michelle Allen and Vincent Michael Allen; his grandchildren, Nicole Smiley, Chase Allen and Hector DeLaFuente; and beloved family and friends.

His absence leaves a hole in our hearts and in our lives that will never be filled.
