It troubles me that unsubstantiated reports of corruption in our local governments are running rampant. I don’t understand this, and I would like to address this misinformation.
In my nine years as City Attorney for Midway and 26 years as City Attorney for Versailles, I have not seen any backyard deals, any money changing hands for political favors, or any other type of corruption. The city councils of Versailles and Midway and the Woodford Fiscal Court have all adopted strict codes of ethics that are enforced by an independent Board of Ethics.
If anyone has reason to believe that any councilman, magistrate, mayor or county judge has acted inappropriately, I encourage the person to submit a complaint to the Board of Ethics for a proper investigation and appropriate action.
If we continue to slander the reputations of the good people in office with false accusations of impropriety, we’ll have no one to run for those offices except the ones who make these unfounded claims about corruption. […]
