Larry James Owen, 81, passed away on Saturday, Oct. 17, 2026, at Sayre Christian Village in Lexington, Kentucky. He was born in Garrett, Indiana, on April 26, 1945, to the late Russell James and Leisle Fegler Owen.
Larry was a veteran of the United States Army and graduated from the University of Kentucky and Louisville Bible College. He was a missionary for many years in Haiti and served many churches, including Sulphur Well Christian Church, Calhoun Christian Church and Woodford Christian Church.
Surviving family includes his wife of 57 years, Diana Marlin Owen; daughter, Jody Castillo (Jose); sons, Bud Owen (Tracey) and Janel Owen (Heather); sister, Joyce Adair; grandchildren, DJ, NeNe, Josiah, Zebadiah, Ruby, Selah, Faith, Lydia, Malaya, Gabe, Levi, Asher, Rosie and Mikela; his foster son, Sonny Huddleston; and many nieces and nephews.
Larry is preceded in death by his daughter, Lori Owen Conley.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Oct. 24, at Journey Church in Versailles. The service will begin at 1 p.m. Visitation will precede the service, beginning at noon.
