The Woodford County Economic Development Authority (EDA) Executive Director/Consultant Lucas Witt told the EDA board at its Oct. 23 meeting that “two very interested parties” have made multiple visits to the former Yokohama property at 105 Industry Drive in Versailles.
The EDA is marketing the property, which was purchased by the Woodford County Fiscal Court and City of Versailles for $8.5 million, to potential buyers.
Because no deal has been finalized to sell the property, EDA Board Chair Michael Michalisin said, “There’s a lot of things we shouldn’t, can’t talk about publicly, but I’m aware of these companies, and I think the community would be proud to have (them) as corporate neighbors.”
Woodford County Judge-Executive James Kay thanked Witt and his consulting firm for their work to help the county and city sell the Yokohama property, with the goal of recruiting a company that brings jobs and occupation tax revenue to the county.
In a press release, Kay and Versailles Mayor Laura Dake spoke glowingly of the potential sale.
“The tremendous interest we are seeing in this property confirms that the City of Versailles is open for high-quality business,” said Dake in the release. “Our coordinated focus has always been on creating sustainable, high-paying career opportunities while safeguarding our unique quality of life.”
