Motorcyclist enthusiasts are being invited to participate in the second annual "Woodford County Ride for Life" on Saturday, Aug. 27. The 90-mile charity ride begins at 10 in the morning at the pavilion in the Woodford County Park on Tyrone Pike, and will take motorcyclists on scenic byways such as Pisgah Pike and other less-traveled backroads in Woodford County. "We're taking Shryocks Ferry (Road) down to the river," said motorcycle enthusiast Mike VanHoose, "and we're riding the river for quite a ways – taking those backroads along the river. And that's beautiful. ".we come back up to Clear Creek and Shannon Run and . we meet Pisgah Pike – then we get to hit the horse farms." VanHoose hopes 100 to 150 bikes will participate in the police-escorted charity ride, which supports Woodford County Relay for Life. The local fundraiser fell short of its goal to benefit the American Cancer Society. The Ride for Life was a fundraiser "that was successful last year and we're hoping to do even better this year," said breast cancer survivor Sheila Hollin. She, VanHoose and other members of First Christian Church's Relay for Life team are coordinating the second annual Woodford County Relay for Life, with the support of local businesses. Motorcyclists will share a free meal together after their ride through horse country. "We live to ride and we ride to eat," said VanHoose. Registration forms for the upcoming Woodford County Ride for Life are available at Pretty in Pink, Marketplace on Main and Kentucky Motorsports & Outdoors. The cost is $25 per bike and $10 per rider or $30 per bike and $12 per rider on the day of the event. For more information, send an email to woodfordrideforlife@gmail.com.
