The Versailles-Midway-Woodford County Planning Commission unanimously approved a development plan to construct a 500,000 square-foot distribution center in Midway Station, located north of Midway's I-64 interchange. Tim Parrott was not present at the special meeting on Sept. 29 when the Planning Commission also approved a waiver so Lakeshore Learning Materials will not be required to have a sidewalk along the north side of 547 McKinney Avenue, I-1 (light industrial) zoning district. Lakeshore Learning Materials, which sells educational products, plans to locate its new distribution center on the 41.981-acre site. The California-based company anticipates employing 262 full-time workers and has gotten preliminary approval for up to $3.7 million in tax incentives. The Woodford County Economic Development Authority will sell the property to Lakeshore for $2.5 million. Lakeshore will then spend $21.3 million on construction costs, according to documents released by the Kentucky Economic Development Finance Authority. The development plan proposes 350 parking spaces and 135 future parking spaces for Lakeshore's distribution center. Rich Schein, who made the motion to approve the plan at last Thursday's special meeting, questioned an engineer about how a drainage plan will handle storm water from the distribution center's roof. He was told a large portion of the runoff would go south to a larger detention basin, with the remainder being directed north to another basin. The Planning Commission also approved a final record plat, which creates the 41-acre lot for Lakeshore's distribution center and a .436-acre lot for a water tower on the Midway Station property, with an access for the City of Midway.
