Ongoing improvements on I-64 in Woodford, Scott and Fayette counties, including ramp upgrades at the Midway exit, are part of a $14 million construction project, according to Brooklyn McIntosh of the Kentucky Department of Highways District 7.

In an April 28 email to the Sun, McIntosh wrote that road improvements include new blacktop, as well as bridge and drainage repairs to “provide Kentuckians a safer, smoother ride.”

“The extensive reconstruction required the eastbound I-64 onramp to be closed so work could be completed safely and on a quicker timeline. The closure began April 19 and was originally planned for 30 days, but is expected to open ahead of schedule around May 10, as conditions allow,” McIntosh said.

“Crews are rebuilding the onramp from the ground up to enhance safety by providing more room for acceleration and more line-of-sight for merging traffic. Work will also address pavement slope issues, provide better water runoff, and add new layers of pavement.”

Also, she told the Sun, a closure for similar upgrades to the westbound I-64 onramp is expected in the coming months. Improvements along nearly seven miles of I-64 between Midway and the I-64/I-75 northern split “will continue through the summer and fall and is scheduled for completion by Nov. 1. We will share traffic updates as work progresses,” she said.
